QuickWrite
Think of someone you know or have read about who was in love. Did love make the person see the world more clearly, or did it cloud his or her vision?
Robert Frost is my favorite poet and I read some of his poems before. “Flower Gathering” is a poem to explain the conflict of love. Love does cloud the speaker’s vision and he loses his lover. In the poem, the speaker gives so much to his lover, but she can’t understand what it is. He is kind of depressed because the person he cares the most doesn’t know the real him. The speaker is the ironic in this poem. He seems like a gift to his lover, but this gift means nothing if she can’t “see” or even “recognize” it. “Do you know me in the gloaming, gaunt and dusty gray with roaming?” We can see that the speaker doesn’t receive the love as much as which he gives to his lover, and he loves a person who doesn’t understand him well.
